Seven Steps to Create a Factory Default Recovery Disc

It used to be that when you bought a new computer, the computer manufacturer (Dell, Toshiba, Gateway, HP, etc.) would include a couple of discs which contained a backup of the original factory default operating system. These recovery CD's allowed you to reinstall the OS to exactly as it was when you first bought the computer.

In recent years these recovery CD's are no longer being included with the new computer (cheaper for the manufacturer - they don't have to create the discs). The default recovery data is now on the actual hard drive itself, and you the owner must copy (burn) this backup information to two or three DVD's.

The other day a client had just bought a new Gateway computer and asked me to make a backup of the original factory installation in case he ever needed to reinstall the OS, drivers and application files. In this article I would like to show you the exact seven steps that I used for this important one-time process (I did this on a Windows 7 Gateway desktop but most manufacturers provide basically the same setup procedure):

Seven Steps to Create a Factory Default Recovery Disc

1) From the Windows default Start menu, click All Programs, Gateway and then click Gateway Recovery Management.

2) In the Gateway Recovery Management window, click Create factory default disc.

3) In the Make Backup Image dialog box, insert a blank disc in the optical drive, and then click Next.

4) Disc 1 is burnt and verified.

5) In the Finished dialog box, insert the next blank disc in the optical drive, and then click Next.

6) Disc 2 is burnt and verified.

7) In the Success dialog box, click OK.

Professor Randy says: Better safe than sorry! Create a recovery disc of your OS as soon as you get your new computer and you will be prepared with an exact backup in case disaster strikes!!

Extract Personal Emails and Data From OST File After Deleting the Mailbox

OST files are the exact replica of Server based folder and allows you to work in offline mode. Considering this relationship, OST file is just a slave and if somehow Master is deleted slave become orphaned. If mailbox has been deleted but profile is not deleted or modified then still you can recover OST file data. You can start the Microsoft Exchange client with the old offline storage file and recover the data by moving messages from OST to PST file. You may also use third party OST to PST conversion software to convert orphaned OST file to PST file.

How to copy offline messages from OST to PST file:

1. Start the Exchange Client OFFLINE.
2. To add PST service click Services On the Tools menu.
3. Select the messages that you want to copy.
4. On the File menu, click Copy.
5. In the Copy to dialog box, select the personal folders (PST) that you have just created in step 2.
6. Click OK.
7. Repeat steps 5 through 8 for messages you want to copy from each folder.

Extract Personal Emails and Data From OST File After Deleting the Mailbox

The reason behind lOST OST file data when profile has been modified is that security on an OST works so that Windows NT authentication cannot be used when you work offline. To ensure that you are allowed to log onto the master folder before local access to OST file, Exchange Server creates an encrypted "cookie" from your mailbox's unique entry ID when you are successfully logged in and this cookie is securely stored in your Exchange Server profile. Every time you try to access the offline storage file, it checks your profile for the existence of this key.

This way you can access the OST file data, if your mailbox is deleted but profile has not been modified. But when you modified the profile Microsoft Exchange replaces this key with a new value from the mailbox that was created and you can not access the data that was contained in the offline storage file created against the first mailbox. in this case you can convert OST to PST file to access the data of first mailbox.

Stellar Phoenix Convert OST PST is the mOST efficient tool to convert outlook OST to PST file. The tool converts all OST file components such as emails, notes, journals, tasks, calendar entries. Stellar Convert OST PST supports MS Outlook 2010, 2007, 2003, 2002, 2000 and compatible with Windows 7, Vista, XP, 2003.

SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10061, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

What causes Error Code 0x800ccc0e?

Error code 0x800CCC0E is triggered because Microsoft Outlook, Outlook Express or Windows Mail is not able to make a proper connection with the SMTP server and therefore you are not able to send E-mail messages. Fortunately, error number 0x800CCC0E is quite easy to fix.

How To Fix Error Number 0x800ccc0e ?

In order to fix error number 0x800ccc0e, you will need to make sure that your e-mail account settings are correct and that PORT 25 is the port used in the SMTP area - unless specifically told to use another port by your Internet Service Provider (ISP). It's possible your ISP has started to block the standard Outgoing Mail Port (25). You may need to consult your ISP's support pages to get the SMTP e-mail settings.

You can also get error 0x800ccc0e messages when you have anti-virus or firewall software enabled on your pc. Turn the anti-virus or firewall off for a moment and try to send your email again. If it works then the security software is the problem and you will need to contact your ISP for help.

Other Solutions to Windows Errors and Slow PC Performance

Many computer errors are usually caused by corrupt or missing Windows Registry data after removing or installing programs. The Windows Registry is the engine of the Windows operating system. Without it, Windows would not be able to run.

When you install and uninstall software the Windows Registry gets overloaded with "junk" information, which can cause errors and slow down your PC performance.

The best thing you can do, to stop your computer from getting more error messages or further registry corruption, is to repair and clean your Windows Registry.

Choosing the Best Memory Card For Your Digital Camera

Which brand of memory card should I buy? Does it make a difference? How big of a card do I need? Is one large card better than multiple small cards? Does the speed rating of the card matter? This article was written to help answer these exact questions.

Cameras and lenses can be easily replaced, especially if they are insured. Those images from the three-week safari, your relatives wedding, or your summer long European tour, simply can't.

Memory Card Reliability

Choosing the Best Memory Card For Your Digital Camera

The first thing to look at is the memory card itself. Most entry level and amateur level cameras use SD (Secure Digital) memory cards. Most professional and prosumer cameras use CF (Compact Flash cards). In general, Compact Flash cards tend to cost more, but offer higher read/write speeds, larger capacities and be less prone to failure than the Secure Digital Cards. This article will focus on those two card types.

While there are many manufacturers of memory card out there, the top tier, and the choice of the vast majority of pros, are SanDisk and Lexar. These are also the only two brands than Nikon tests with and recommends.

SanDisk claims a MTBF (Mean Time Before Failure) of over 1,000,000 hours - that's almost 115 years before the average card fails. Their cards are rated for over 10,000 insertions. A sophisticated defect and error management system can rewrite data from a defective sector to a good sector on the fly. SanDisks built in Error Detection Code and Error Correction Code to try to recover corrupted data automatically.

The regular (blue) SanDisk CF card has an operating temperature range from 0°C to 70°C (32°F to 158°F). The Extreme III cards are rated with an operating range of -25°C to 85°C (-13°F to 185°F). They can withstand a shock of 2,000G (or about a 10 ft drop onto a concrete floor). Hard-drives can only withstand a 200-300G shock - a drop of less than 2 foot.

SanDisk quote less than 1 non-recoverable error in every 10^14 bits read (or one error for every 12.5 terabytes of data - or one out of every million 12.5Mb RAW files, or one out of every three million Fine JPEGs).

Overall the reliability from their Compact Flash cards is significantly better than even the best hard drives on the market today.

One important note: there are many fake SanDisk cards in the marketplace. Some of these are cheaper manufacturers cards with SanDisk stickers and packaging. Some are custom made with no quality control and put into SanDisk looking boxes. Our best advice, is to only buy from a reputable retailer like Amazon.com or BHPhotoVideo.com, and avoid buying memory cards that appear too cheap, are for sale on eBay, or some market stall while traveling etc - stick to reputable sources that are authorized dealers.

However, even with the best cards, errors do still occur. There are many, many millions of these cards in circulation today. Look at any DSLR internet forum, and you'll find reports of lost images. Most of these you'll note are either with cheaper cards, potentially fake SanDisk or Lexar cards, or caused by user error. If you remove the card from the camera before the camera has finished writing the data, you'll lose images that the camera hasn't completed writing. It's very easy to accidentally format a card, especially if you use multiple cards. There are reports of certain software applications importing the images from the card, then the user deleting the card, only to find that the application only imported the thumbnail JPEGs that were embedded into the RAW image files, not the actual RAW image files. In virtually all these cases, most of the images are recoverable using data recovery software.

Bottom line, trying to save on a memory card for a camera/lens system that costs hundred or thousands of dollars makes very little sense. If you stick with the top tier brands, memory cards are very, very reliable, and they are far from the weakest link in the typical users workflow.

Card Sizes: One Large Card vs. Multiple Small Cards

How much card space you need depends on what format you shoot (RAW files are significantly larger than JPEG's), and how many shots you are likely to take between getting to a computer to clear off and backup the cards. If I'm traveling, I've usually got a laptop with me so I can backup my cards every evening. Some days I may only take a dozen shots, but it's also not unknown for me to take several thousand shots in a day if I'm at an event with a lot of action.

On a Nikon D200 containing a blank 8Gb SanDisk card, the camera claims 480 shots are available for RAW shooting. This number is usually conservative, as the size of the RAW file varies. My Nikon D300 regularly gets around 700 shots on an 8Gb card using Lossless Compressed NEF files. If you switch the D200 to Fine JPEG, it shows 1,300 shots available. If you select RAW plus Fine JPEG, it shows 354 shots available. Your cameras manual will contain a table showing similar data for your particular model.

There are conflicting opinions as to if one large card is better, or if many smaller cards are. The argument for smaller cards is, that if your card fails or you drop your camera in the ocean, you lose less data. The argument for larger cards, is card failure is very rare, and largely recoverable. You also risk a much higher chance of dropping a card, getting it wet, sitting on it, losing it, accidentally erasing it, forgetting it or leaving it in your hotel room if you are managing multiple cards.

There are other things to consider also. Uploading to computer can take a long time - putting in one large card and leaving it to upload is a lot less work than swapping multiple smaller cards and uploading each one manually. A 4Gb size card is ideal if you back up to DVD - it's the largest card size that will completely fit onto a DVD, making the back up a simple drag and drop.

There is no right or wrong answer, we've standardized on 8Gb Compact Flash cards - mainly because they hold a decent number of shots and usually offer the best price per gigabyte. I'll carry up to ten of them with me when I'm traveling. As larger cards become more common and prices drop further, we'll go to larger sized cards. The most important thing is to make sure you have enough memory card space to last you until you can upload them to a computer - it's better to have more than you need than not enough.

Card Speed: How Fast Do I Need?

Memory cards come in a wide range of speeds, and the faster the card, the more expensive. How fast of a card you need depends on a number of items:

Is how long it takes for the images to upload to a computer important to you? If you are uploading via cable from your camera, your upload speed is limited by the camera. If you are using a CF of SD reader, you are limited by the speed of that. For the absolute fastest uploads, use a card that supports UDMA (like the SanDisk Extreme IV's, SanDisk Ducati's, and Lexar 300x) in a FireWire reader. For example, the SanDisk Ultra II 8Gb card claims a 15 Mb/second read speed, so that would take almost 9 minutes to upload on an optimally configured system. The 8Gb Ducati card claims a 45Mb/second speed, so would take less than three minutes to upload.Which camera do you use? The Nikon D200 does not support UDMA, so even though an Extreme IV is faster in it than an Extreme III, the card is much slower than it is in the D300 - the D300 can handle a much faster data transfer rate. How likely are you to fill the camera buffer? If you shoot landscape or take several minutes to compose each shot, then you don't need a fast card. If you are shooting non-stop action and taking sequence after sequence at 8fps, you'll need as fast a card as possible. Cameras like the D200 and D300 have a big enough on board buffer to store about 17 shots if you are shooting RAW. Once you've taken a picture, the camera writes it to the memory card and erases it from the buffer as soon as it can. Once the buffer is full, the camera won't let you take another picture until it's written an image to the memory card and made room in the buffer. If you are using an Ultra II card in a Nikon D300, this means you may only be able to take a shot every 2-3 seconds when the buffer is full. If you are using a Ducati card, you may still be able to manage a couple of frames a second. Then if you stop shooting, the Ultra II may take a minute or so to get the buffer cleared and all written to the card. The Ducati card will allow the camera to write the images to the card and clear the buffer in seconds.

If you take your time to compose each shot, and upload speed isn't important to you, then memory card speed isn't important. If you are shooting action or sports and use a rapid frame rate frequently, then you want the fastest card, and camera, that you can afford.

Data Recovery Whether you've accidentally removed your memory card while the camera was still writing, deleted or formatted the wrong card, or the card has developed an error, it's usually possible to retrieve some, if not all of the lost data.

The higher end cards from both SanDisk and Lexar come with their respective data recovery software packages on CD. SanDisk's is called RescuePro, and Lexar's is called Image Rescue. Both are reputed to be very effective. A third part solution called PhotoRescue is also widely used and reputedly better than both SanDisk's and Lexar's offerings, fortunately we've not had the need to find out.

In Summary

Your photos are infinitely more important than your camera gear. By selecting the right memory cards and taking a few simple precautions, you can potentially save yourself from losing irreplaceable photographs due to the unforeseen events that hit us all occasionally.

Importance Of Data In Accounting And Parties Interested In Accounting Information

The term "data" refers to primary details or numerical facts relating to an event or transaction. Data is stored and maintained on a computer or network. Computer Software like HiTech Financial Accounting process this electronic data. Data is also maintained as hardcopy or paper print. Since accounting limits itself only to those transactions and events which are financial in character, therefore, accounting data will consist of facts, financial in nature, relating to transactions and events of a business entity for the accounting period. Moreover, accounting data must be supported by documentary evidence. Thus, documents known as vouchers, support the data. Usually data is disorganized and disjointed in its raw form. It is not capable of being understood. So, accounting processes raw data into finished form of "information" to make it useful and meaningful, capable of being used in decision taking process by the various users of accounting information.

Thus accounting data processed by the accounting cycle produces accounting information. Data is collected, recorded, classified, grouped, valued, tabulated, arranged, summarized in order to present the same in the form of information for its use by the users to enable them to take decisions.

Accounting data Consists of financial transactions and events relating to an entity for the accounting period supported by documentary evidence (vouchers). For example receipts and payments are documented by payee's receipt purchases by invoice, sales by outwards invoice, returns inwards by credit note; returns outwards by debit note; expenses by bills or payment rolls etc.

Importance Of Data In Accounting And Parties Interested In Accounting Information

Thus the first and the most important function of accounting is to collect the data supported by the vouchers to ensure the authenticity of the same. Accounting processes consist of recording in the books of original entry (journal or sub- journals); classifying (posting into ledger) grouping (putting transactions of similar nature at one place in one account) valuing (finding the value at year end by balancing or valuing) tabulating (preparing list of balances and checking arithmetical accuracy) and preparing financial statements (Trading and Profit and loss account; Balance Sheet) in report form to communicate the information.

Now-a-days computer accounting software can manage this task very efficient in a matter of short time. Accounting information is presented mostly in the form of financial statements like Income statement (Trading and Profit & Loss account) Position statement (Balance sheet). Now-a-days statement of changes in financial position; value added statement; report on Human resources accounting; Social performance report etc. form part of accounting information

Difference between Data and Information

Data

1. Refers to details, facts about any event.

2. Is, generally, disorganized and disjointed in the form.

3. Is in raw-form and is the input of accounting.

4. Cannot be understood or made use of by the users.

5. It does not depend upon information.

Information

1. Refers to only those events which are concerned with entity.

2. Is properly arranged, classified and organized.

3. Is in the finished form and is the output of accounting.

4. Is understood and used by the users of accounting information for taking their decisions.

5. Information is based upon and derived from data.

Parties interested in accounting information

Accounting information is of interest to various persons who are directly or indirectly concerned with an enterprise.

Management:

A small business is generally carried on by the sole trader or by the partners. But a large business is usually conducted by an incorporated company which separates management from ownership. Managers' responsibility is to operate the business efficiently and maximize the return on capital without jeopardizing the fund.

Management needs accounting information in

(1) selecting out of alternative proposals;

(2) controlling acquisition and maintenance of inventories (stock) cash receipts and payments;

(3) planning or budgeting for the future

(4) appraising the performance and

(5) devising remedial measures for the deviations of the actual results from the budgeted targets.

Owners:

Although owners initiate in contributing fund to the business yet they are the last to receive their claim on equity's return on their investment. This is true not only in repaying but also in rewarding their capital. After meeting all the charges including employees' salaries and lender's interest profit if any can be distributed as a reward on capital. Naturally, the owners are interested in the safety of their capital as also for a reasonable return thereon, which rest on the concern' s stability and prosperity. Accounting reports (annual) not only appraise the past performance but also assist in assessing future prospects of the entity. Such information is also very important for would-be-owners.

Creditors:

May be short-term viz, suppliers of goods, lenders of temporary advance or long-terms viz. mortgages, debenture holders etc. Although both are interested in the stability and earnings of the debtor firm yet the former specially looks to its short-term solvency i.e. liquidity whereas the latter is interested in long-term solvency of the firm.

Government:

Many products now-a-days are subject to excise-duty and sales Lax. Also the government regulates the prices of essential goods e.g.. drugs, vegetables, oil etc. So the Government is interested to know the costing information to administer excise duties and to regulate the prices of products. Government is also interested in the accounting information on the profits for income tax purposes.

Employees:

Steady employment and stability of business go together. Again trade unions are interested in sharing the profit of the firm in the form of bonus. Therefore, the employees are naturally interested in the accounting information provided by the annual accounting reports.

Consumers:

Price-increase is disfavored in almost all the quarters. Accordingly, a producer endeavors to reduce his product cost as also its selling price. Recently consumer protection associations have been formed to exercise control on the business and industry and also to make them aware of the "Social responsibility" towards society. Thus consumers also need accounting information.

Researchers:

The financial statements, being a mirror of business conditions are of inestimable value for research into business affairs. These statements are therefore of great interest to scholars undertaking research in accounting theory as well as business affairs and practices.

The nature of business income

One of the main objectives of financial accounting is to ascertain whether the business operations have been profitable or not. Accounting enables us to find out whether a business has earned profits or suffered losses during the accounting period.

System Recovery In Dell Inspiron 15

[Introduction]

The system recovery means the reinstalling and reconfiguring your Dell Inspiron back to the Factory Settings as it was at the time of purchase. There can be numerous reasons to use the system recover tool. It is dependent on two variables; one is whether you are able to boot the Windows; and second, is if you are not able to load Windows. Two different methods are used to recover the system. If you are a new user of Dell Inspiron, it is quite normal that you need a proper guide to know what makes your operating system corrupt; and what are the available tools to recover it back to the factory settings.

Here is a list of different situations that may require system recovery:

System Recovery In Dell Inspiron 15

- Corruption of Operating System

- Viruses and Spywares

- Poor performance

[Detailed Section]

Corruption of Operating System: The most common event that may force you to use tool is the corruption of the operating system. Your operating system can become corrupted with any or combination of the following events such as: sudden power failure, missing DLL files, damage of master boot record and many other. If the operating system is damaged, you can not perform any task on your Dell Inspiron 15 unless you use the system recovery tool which is built-in by default in it.

Viruses and Spywares: If your Inspiron has got viruses and other malicious threats then you must use the recovery tool as they can damage the valuable data on your system. The spywares can send the personal information about your computer, location, identity and, in severe case, can access your confidential information. To remove these threats from the Dell Inspiron the system recovery tool will format the partition and erase the viruses and Trojans from the system. After using the system recovery tool you can install any reliable Antivirus to fix the threats on other partitions, prevent them in future.

Poor performance: Your Dell Inspiron becomes slower after some period and takes so much time to load and operate the different tasks which irritates the user. If it has become slow, it's the time to use the system recovery tool as it will restore all the setting back to factory setting and you will be able to experience the same comfort and feel as it was on day one.

Different Tools Available in Dell Inspiron 15

Generally there are two options available in your Dell Inspiron to use the tool:

If Able to Access Desktop: If you are able to load the Windows then you can use system recovery by going to Control Panel and choosing system restore & maintenance option and then following the displaying guidelines. These guidelines are very easy to understand and an average user can easily manage it.

If Unable to Access: If you are unable to load the Windows then you can press the F8 or Ctrl+F11 when the Dell Logo appears on the start up. It will take you to the system recovery tools and options and you can choose the most suitable options. The system recovery can take 15 minutes or above depending on the data to restore. After using the system recovery you may need to install the drivers and programs.

Is It Possible to Retrieve Deleted Text Messages From an iPhone?

Everyone loves to text, and these days it is easier than ever with smartphones that are touch screen, have auto correct (which, frankly, can be annoying at times), and even some third-party apps that allow you to text for free. As with anything, popularity and frequent use comes with a price - problems.

How many times have you deleted a text message that is full of information that you need back? Do you think that text message is gone forever? In some cases, that may hold true, but there is a good chance that you can get some or all of the information back.

Take an Apple iPhone, for example. Much like a computer, when information is deleted it is not truly erased. When you delete a text message from an iPhone, it is actually still there. However, it is now being held in the unallocated portion of the physical memory. The bad news is that anything that is in the unallocated portion of the memory is subject to being overwritten. Thus, consider the biggest factors that affect the retrieval of iPhone text messages are available free memory and usage.

Is It Possible to Retrieve Deleted Text Messages From an iPhone?

For example, if you have a 16GB iPhone and it has 15.8GB of music, photos, text messages, and apps on it, chances are unallocated memory is going to be overwritten quickly. Along the same lines, if the iPhone user is texting constantly (like my teenager who sends and receives in excess of five thousand text messages per month), the risk of the deleted text messages being overwritten increases. Another thing to keep in mind is that there is no rhyme or reason as to the way an iPhone writes data to the physical memory. It doesn't care if the data is old or new, it just writes it to whatever portion of the unallocated memory is easiest to write to at the time. Thus, when recovering deleted information, you may get back all of the message, but you may also get back only part of it.

Some say that your cell provider can give you access to all of your incoming and outgoing text messages. Although it is true that some cell carriers maintain the content of all incoming and outgoing text messages, I have found it to be the case that they will not just give them to you. Most need a court order as the only reason they retain this information is for law enforcement authorities investigation purposes.

Search the internet. There is a plethora of knowledge out there by doing a simple Google search. There are forums dedicated to the subject, and many "techies" roam these forums and post great information. Some call for your iPhone to be "jailbroken", which I don't recommend, but if your iPhone is jailbroken, you may just find the information you need.

If you don't want to do or feel comfortable doing the forensic work on your iPhone yourself, there is recovery software on the market. One of the most important things you can do before purchasing any type of recovery software is to know your iOS version. Make sure that the software you get is compatible with your iOS version, and it is also best to make sure that the software comes with free updates. This is because Apple releases iOS versions fairly regularly, and if your recovery software doesn't come with updates, it will soon be outdated. You never know when you will need to use it again!

Beware of SIM card recovery software when dealing with iPhone! AT&T iPhones uses the SIM card for GSM (cellular network) service only. They do not save text messages to the SIM card.

Accidents can happen to anyone. If you have inadvertently deleted text messages that you need and are looking for information on how to retrieve iPhone deleted text messages, there are plenty of options that may help you get them back.

How to Recover Deleted Emails and Restore Them Completely

It can happen to anyone. We accidentally delete an email that we really need. And it just happened to be important work file, attachment or picture. So now what? How can I recover that email? Is it at all possible? Surely, it can be permanently deleted?

Well, there is good news and bad news.

Let's start with the good news.

How to Recover Deleted Emails and Restore Them Completely

Restoring Deleted Emails

If you delete an email, it hasn't really gone anywhere. Even if you've emptied your recycle bin or the "Trash" folder in your Inbox - the email still isn't deleted. It's just that your computer system now has no way to figure out where it is. But it's there, still on your hard drive. By using special email recovery tools you can recover deleted emails because these programs identify these 'missing' files and can bring them back to life.

Now the bad news.

Act Quickly and Increase Your Chances

The bad news is you have to act quickly. You only have a small time-frame in which to try to attempt to recover your lost email. Every minute that you waste and continue to use the drive for anything that isn't related to recovering your emails, you severely decrease your chances of successful email recovery. Why?

Well, because your hard drive is constantly overwriting files to make space for new information you put into it. If your hard drive is full and there is not much space or memory available - it is highly probable that the email has already been overwritten and deleted - permanently.

Other Problems with Recovering Deleted Emails

Not all deleted or lost emails go to "Trash" folder. If you have suffered a computer crash or hardware failure or your operating system is corrupted in some way, then it is unlikely that emails you have deleted can be recovered.

Also, if you haven't opened the email at all or it hasn't been deleted the usual way due to file corruption, you probably will have less of a chance to recover and restore the email in its entirety.

Nothing to Lose

Recover deleted email programs search and locate the emails that you have deleted. You can search by entering a specific keyword for example. Then, you can choose to preview the email to see it's contents and if it's been recovered in its original state by the program. You can also select to scan for what ever email program you are using (and need to recover) - either web based emails such as Hotmail, Yahoo and Gmail or Outlook Express.

Best bit is this. Most of these email recovery programs are free to download. When they start scanning your hard drive looking for the deleted email and then manage to find it and when you are completely satisfied that that's your missing email - then you can then proceed to purchase the software.

In essence, you have nothing to lose (if the email is not there - it's not there) and everything to gain.

Well, at least you can get your deleted email back.
